Summary: PATA and SATA problems
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: linux
AssignedTo: fabbione at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: carlos.perello at canonical.com
QAContact: kernel-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
I just got a SATA RAID controller and added it to my server it "just works" as
usual with other hardware and Ubuntu but when I try to migrate my data from the
old PATA hard drives to the new SATA I get a Kernel panic.
I did some checks and the PATA drives are really slow (hdparm gives me 2.04MB/s
vs. the usual 35MB/s) when the SATA is plugged.
The controllers are:
0000:00:07.1 IDE interface: VIA Technologies, Inc.
VT82C586A/B/VT82C686/A/B/VT823x/A/C PIPC Bus Master IDE (rev 06)
0000:00:0f.0 RAID bus controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic MegaRAID (rev 01)
(It's an Intel SRCS16)
If I use the SATA controller alone works without problems, and same with the
PATA one. The problem is when I try to use both at the same time.
The kernel I'm using:
carlos at gollum:~$ uname -a
Linux gollum 2.6.10-5-686 #1 Fri May 20 14:31:01 UTC 2005 i686 GNU/Linux
