I found another thread on Fedora forum
(http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-54520.html). Could be the
"new" kernel?

I upgraded a AMD64 box to 2.6.11-1.14_FC3smp using yum.
After reboot the box hangs with the following messages:

kernel direct mapping tables upto ffff8101000000000 @ 800-d000
PANIC: early exception rip ffffffff8050b68d erro 0 cr2 0
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.11-14_FC3smp ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhb quitet

initrd /initrd-2.6.11-1.14_FC3smp.img
[Linux-initrd @ 0x37e5e000, 0x191556 bytes]

Decompressing Linux...done.
Booting the kernel.

Any solutions to this problem?
