I had this same problem with Gentoo. To fix it had to unload the tulip driver,
and use only the dmfe driver (either that or load dmfe first). I have not tried
installing Warty to see if its driver works, however I have installed FreeBSD on
this machine and its driver works without a workaround. The FreeBSD code might
be a good place to start to fix this problem, but I don't know if the FreeBSD
kernel has modules or what modules are used for the ethernet card. The card
works on Windows XP, but when I run Windows Update, it mistakes the ethernet
card for a phone line home networking card. I have a Soyo Dragon 2 P4I865PE+
motherboard, and the ethernet card is a Realtek RTL8100C (Davicom
9102-compatible PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter, according to Windows).
