well, I know this code, it's what is called during boot as well to setup DMA,
what I don't understand is what you mean precisely by "too early". I do have
some ideas about what might be going on though, I would need some more traces
though. Can you try to add printk to whatever ioctl handler gets called and
along the call chain, and add something to ide start_request as well to check if
we may be trying to start the same request over and over in a loop ?
