I attempted to solve this by copying the firmware from my install CD that I know
works to /lib/hotplug/firmware/RADIO16.BIN, but this get's the following error:

Firmware: '/lib/hotplug/firmware/RADIO16.BIN-2.6.10-5-386' not found. Trying
alternative firmware.
Allocated 83024 bytes for firmware module loading.
not using auto increment for firmware loading.
acx_write_fw: Firmware written.
FATAL: firmware upload: data parts at offset 60252 don't match!! (0xf884c6a5 vs.
 0x00000000). Memory defective or I/O timing issues, with DWL-xx0+?? Makefile: A
CX_IO_WIDTH=16 should help... Please report!!

Weirdly, on another partition on this laptop I have my Ubuntu installation that
I use for everyday work (hoary upgraded from warty) and the same method (copying
firmware into that directory), leads it to work fine. But I'm posting this
because this is a clean default hoary install, so it is more likely to be reliable.
