Please during install try to switch to the second console after the failure
(Alt+F2) and see what sort of error messages are there. These (exact) messages
are important. Saying that it failed isn't enough for me to go on.

Also, which dapper install CD are you using? Is this daily build of the
installer, flight 1, flight 2? Flight 2 is the only thing that I know should
work decently.
