X starts, and the Ubuntu GNOME-splash is shown. Then suddenly the system is
freezed. Mouse pointer disappeared. Does not respond to any keystrokes,
including Ctrl-Alt-Backspace and Ctrl-Alt-Del. /var/log/syslog and
/var/log/kern.log looks fine.

Works with linux-image.2.6.15-8-686 2.6.15-8.10. Fails with
linux-image.2.6.15-9-686 2.6.15-9.14.

The machine is an IBM T40 laptop, dual-head with an external display.
Please advice me what I need to give you for troubleshooting.
