I also had problems with vga16fb on a laptop w/ sis M650, the screen only showed
the first 25 console lines.

Now with the new kernel I can see all the lines (obviously as the last 5 are no
longer there) but the sceen still flickers a lot and sometimes I do get a black
screen only. That black screen seems to happen randomly but never (until now)
during the boot. It just happens sometimes when I change from X to console, but
if I then change back to X and back again to console it displays fine (but
always flickering).
