Summary: [Dapper] H/W support regresssion
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: linux
AssignedTo: ben.collins at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: vincent.trouilliez at modulonet.fr
QAContact: kernel-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
Dapper has problems with my old (x12 speed) Plextor SCSI CD writer, it won't
burn anything anymore (works fine with Breezy)
When I insert a blank CD in it, nothing happens (from a GUI/Nautilus point of
view), and the kernel prints these errors:
Dec 19 11:09:26 localhost kernel: [17193105.656000] (scsi0:A:1:0): No or
incomplete CDB sent to device.
Dec 19 11:09:26 localhost kernel: [17193105.656000] scsi0: Issued Channel A Bus
Reset. 1 SCBs aborted
Dec 19 11:09:27 localhost kernel: [17193105.920000] sr 0:0:1:0: SCSI error:
return code = 0x10000
which get repeated over and over every few second.
I checked in Breezy, and when I insert a blank CD, Nautilus detects it, and the
kernel doesn't print any message (good or bad), it just works.
I had a look at the modules that Breezy loads:
vincent at Lotus-Esprit:~ $ lsmod |grep ai
container 4608 0
aic7xxx 165332 1
scsi_transport_spi 17920 1 aic7xxx
scsi_mod 124872 5 sg,sr_mod,aic7xxx,scsi_transport_spi,libata
... and Dapper loads exactly the same thing. Maybe one of more of these modules
have changed in the meantime ? Or maybe it's really a kernel bug not just the
driver ?
It's going to be a show stopper for me of course, if Dapper is released in this
state, so please bug me, please ask me to do whatever experiment/troubleshooting
you need me to do, I want my CD burner back, if just to burn future Dapper
Flight CD's ! ;-)
