I'm sorry to say that the problem is present in Dapper Flight 2. 
But, I was able to see the IO errors more clearly. It's something to
do with my windows raid array and ubuntu trying to read from those discs.
I've had simular problems with Mandriva, but worked around that problem by
telling Mandriva
not to try mounting those discs. Maby you added sata raid support to the kernel
after Horay, and that's 
why I'm not getting the error in that release? If so, then this would be more of an
install issue rather than a kernel issue.
