What you call the "original file" is called the "TARGET" in the ln manual page.

The link goes TO the TARGET, not from it, in much the same way that bullets
travel towards their targets, rather than away from them.

Are you suggesting that the ln manual page might have it around the wrong way? 
Or are you failing to understand what that manual page says?

I'm not quite understanding exactly how both comments #1 and #3 can think that
links go from their target rather than to them, given what the man page says.
