I get the same problem with the linux-image-2.6.15-X-amd64-generic kernel
atleas thats what i think is happending. I have not been able to capture
anyting from dmesg allthow i have piped the output to a file during shutdown.
Alsow im not able to switch terminal without the computer frezing up  in the
same manner as a shutdown in witch it emidiatly blanks out the monitor and
apperently stops the shutdown sequense (no disk activity).
