Summary: 2.6.15-7-686 kernel breaks PCI probe order on IBM
Thinkpad
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: linux
AssignedTo: ben.collins at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: timw at splhi.com
QAContact: kernel-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
I am testing out Dapper on a Thinkpad T42.
On upgrade from 2.6.15-6-686 to 2.6.15-7-686, the machine fails to mount the
root filesystem when attached to the docking station. The root partition is
enumerated as hde5 instead of hda5 when docked. The internal IDE controller is:
0000:00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801DBM (ICH4-M) IDE Controller
(rev 01)
the docking station controller is
0000:09:01.0 IDE interface: Silicon Image, Inc. PCI0648 (rev 01)
so clearly, the internal controller should be picked up first. Not sure if this
is a kernel change or a udev/initramfs change as they both were upgraded around
the same time. I am quite happy to debug if given direction.
