I am running said kernel on Dapper.

It no longer locks up hdparm, which is a good sign, so Imagine it won't lock up
on kernel install either.

However, I still cannot mount a disc placed in that drive if no drive was in it
when linux was booted. I get the following sequence now in dmesg, after
successfully inserting a disc in /dev/hdc (and having it appear in Gnome. If I
eject it from Gnome it disappears but gives an error about an invalid arugment,
and then I ejected it manually). After inserting it in drive /dev/hdd I get no
automount, manual mount fails, and I get the following in dmesg:

[17179752.996000] hdd: request sense failure: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
[17179752.996000] hdd: request sense failure: error=0x04 { AbortedCommand }
[17179803.628000] hdc: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy }
[17179803.628000] ide: failed opcode was: unknown
[17179803.628000] hdc: DMA disabled
[17179803.676000] hdc: ATAPI reset complete

I'm pretty sure the hdc time out stuff is related to a bug with Totem playing
DVDs (especially those that are music centric), as Totem auto-loaded it and
failed on the opening screen, as usual.

Running hdparm /dev/hdd after this hangs.
