I've got a Dell Latitude CSx I just loaded edubuntu on (5.10 breezy).  It hangs when the nm256 module
is loaded for the sound card during hotplug startup.  Looks like the kernel needs this patch pulled back:

The kernel I see this on is 2.6.12-10.24.
