Upgrading my Dapper install I found that the post-install script of the package
linux-restricted-modules-common has errors that prevents a successful kernel
installation.

dpkg outputs:

    dpkg (subprocess): unable to execute post-installation script:
        Exec format error
    dpkg: error processing linux-restricted-modules-common (--configure): 
        subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2
