well it appears to be something in the Via chipset that doesn't use realtek
audio codecs. My new board has the realtek audio codecs and I am having no
problems. after looking in the manual on my old board, it just says tha it uses
Via codecs, nto realtek liek this new gigabyte board uses.

so the problem has to lie in the codec standards somewhere. hope this helps.
