I have virtually identical behavior on my new Thinkpad T43, with Breezy Colony 3
installed.  I uncommented the ACPI_SLEEP line, and now the suspend function key
puts the machine to sleep nicely, but on wakeup, the screen remains powered off.
 It has to be shut down and restarted to get the screen back.  

I can provide diagnostics from my machine if desired.
