Your hardware doesn't provide fan control via ACPI, so the kernel has no way of
controlling it. As a result, the BIOS turns the fan on whenever it feels like
it. You can control this to some extent with the ibm-acpi module if you load it
with experimental=1, but we have no way of influencing it in a safe and generic
way. http://ibm-acpi.sf.net should have some more information.
