Summary: madwifi drivers doesn't work in 2.6.12-6-686
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: linux-restricted-modules
AssignedTo: daniel.stone at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: joerg.unglaub at gmail.com
QAContact: kernel-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
The madwifi driver does not work
modprobe -vv ath_pci says:
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.12-6-686/kernel/drivers/volatile/ath_hal.ko
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.12-6-686/kernel/drivers/volatile/wlan.ko
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.12-6-686/kernel/drivers/volatile/ath_rate_sample.ko
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.12-6-686/kernel/drivers/volatile/ath_pci.ko
that means the drivers are build correctly but dmesg says only
and why will ath_rate_sample.ko be loaded it should be something like
ath_rate_onoe.ko
and where is the 80211.ko

the card is an D-Link DWL-G650 with:
0000:02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg
NIC (rev 01)
the Card worked with latest drivers in 2.6.10 and selfcompiled with 2.6.12-1
iwconfig says:
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
sit0 no wireless extensions.
irda0 no wireless extensions.
seems that ath0 is missing :-(
any ideas and what's up with that new "build-the-true-modules-at-bootup" system
crazy idea to not provide new packages for every new kernelfixup but it should
let the modules work...
