Summary: ACPI event troubles on Acer TravelMate 620 laptop with
Ubuntu kernels
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: kernel-package
AssignedTo: fabbione at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: mjuliuss at online.no
QAContact: kernel-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

With my Acer TravelMate 620 laptop, using a Ubuntu kernel (tested hoary's and
breezy's in main) or a kernel patched with the Ubuntu patches, the ACPI events
does not work. $ acpi_listen doesn't show anything.
ACPI events works if I boot the computer without the AC cable plugged in. Then,
when I plug in the adapter the ACPI events ceases to work. I can't find any
error meassage anywhere in the logs. I can still read off the battery status
with the command "acpi", but a module (acerhk to enable hot keys on the
keyboard) I have compiled myself also ceases to work. The ACPI events does not
start to work again when I deattach the AC cable.
If I disable acpi at boot and boots with the AC adapter connected and load some
of the acpi modules (ac, button, etc) by hand the ACPI events works until I load
the 'battery' module.
If I use a vanilla linux kernel from kernel.org (2.6.12.3 tested, but also
worked with other not-Ubuntu-kernels in the past) the ACPI events works with the
AC adapter plugged in or without. With the 'battery' module loaded, or without.
With a kernel compiled from the source-package linux-source-2.6.12 in the main
repository it's the same as with a kernel image from Ubuntu main.
Conclusion:
One of Ubuntus kernel patches ruins acpi events on the Acer TravelMate 620.
