Summary: on boot, Kernel panic - not syncing : VFS: Unable to
                    mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: i386
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: linux
        AssignedTo: fabbione at ubuntu.com
        ReportedBy: stefano.costa at email.it
         QAContact: kernel-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

I decided to upgrade linux-image-386 from 2.6.10-2 to 2.6.10-5 (current version
is 2.6.10-34.3), but at boot time it says
Kernel panic - not syncing : VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

and hangs up.
So I guess something in the installation went wrong, but... what? I just used
synaptic.
