For the Gentoo 2005.0 64bit install CD, uname -a:
Linux livecd 2.6.11-gentoo-r3-k8 #1 SMP Sun Mar 20 21:39:10 UTC 2005 x86_64
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20Ghz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
Here is the package contents of that CD:
http://gentoo.osuosl.org/releases/amd64/2005.0/installcd/CONTENTS.universal
I think you need the following sources to compile that kernel:
http://gentoo.osuosl.org/distfiles/linux-2.6.11.tar.bz2
http://gentoo.osuosl.org/distfiles/genpatches-2.6-11.01-base.tar.bz2
http://gentoo.osuosl.org/distfiles/genpatches-2.6-11.01-extras.tar.bz2
(the latter two archives are just sets of patches; the README in the 'base'
archive covers both sets)

The above kernel definitely appears to have AHCI support compiled in, whereas
the Ubuntu Hoary kernel does not (perhaps AHCI was first added in 2.6.11, or it
was not enabled in the config for the Hoary kernel). The dmesg for the Hoary
installer kernel shows no sign of AHCI, but for the Gentoo kernel it shows the
following:
libata version 1.10 loaded.
ahci version 1.00
ACPI: PCI interrupt 0000:00:1f.2[B] -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 19
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:1f.2 to 64
ahci(0000:00:1f.2) AHCI 0001.0000 32 slots 4 ports 1.5 Gbps 0xf impl SATA mode
ahci(0000:00:1f.2) flags: 64bit ncq pm led slum part
