I have the same problem, with the following differences.

Yesterday (2005-04-12) I upgraded from Warty to Hoary. Installation went fine
but after the cd ejects and the system reboots, when bringing up the network
interfaces the boot screen states 'OK', but when trying to sync the clock it
says "unable to resolve name". I do NOT use DHCP, my network is statically
configured. The network config screen in Gnome shows the correct settings just
as before upgrading. I cannot ping the router OR anything else, in my LAN or on
the internet. This problem is intriguing because no error appears anywhere,
except you just can't connect.

I made a backup of the Warty partition with partimage, so I can easily revert if
needed, and upgrade again.

Of course my hardware is totally different from Kurt's. Next I am attaching the
files requested.
