I managed to workaround the CD-not-detected issue by loading a copy of the
install CD onto an external USB drive.
However, when I get to the partitioning step, all that is detected and available
is the external USB drive.
The SATA drives do not appear to be detected, and neither is the RAID1 volume
that the drives were already configured with and initialized using the Intel
ICH6R / LSI BIOS. I scanned the dmesg output (see above) and /dev but found no
evidence that the HDDs were properly detected.
Given that neither the IDE CDROM nor the SATA HDD's are detected, I think we may
have more that one problem here (or at least a combination of issues).
I could play with various BIOS settings (like disabling RAID completely) but
that probably won't help get the system to where I want it to be.
Note that this server is supported under RHEL 3+ and SUSE 9+, and I believe that
I have followed all instructions in the server manual (including the RAID BIOS
configuration) in preparation of a Linux OS install.
