Automatic periodic upgrades as part of the base layer

Hi all


It has been discussed previously that Juju Charms should encapsulate best
practice knowledge. To my understanding, applying updates quickly is very
important for security reasons. I don't want to spend time upgrading all my
containers/servers, so automatic periodic upgrading seems a good fit for
me. I'd like to start a discussion about enabling automatic upgrades by
default in the base layer.

What is your experience with upgrades. Do they have a tendency to break
things? Should this be enabled by default, added in as a configurable
switch or not added at all?

I added a bug report to the base layer repo, however, this might have a big
impact so I'm linking it here to know your thoughts:
