Heterogeneous series environments

I want to register a note of complaint. Your mechanic will chide you for 
putting mismatched tires on your car. Apple will refuse to support you 
if you put non apple ram in your computer, and so forth. I think our 
policy of mixing series is a convenience for other parts of the series 
driven support cycle which are less flexible. I do not think mixed 
series' should be supported.
