todays job has been:

(a) the continuation of the first firewaller branch after reviews and discussion in irc. The branch is re-proposed at https://codereview.appspot.com/6374069/

(b) first merge of (a) and adopting the most of the ideas of today into the follow-up proposal https://codereview.appspot.com/6404051/ for watching machine units; it's now work-in-progress and not yet re-preposed because I would like too merge the next round of (a)
