Ubuntu 17.10 (artful) reached end-of-life on July 19, 2018.

latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still

Bug description:
  Using ubuntu 17.10 live from pendrive with 4GB persistency created by
  Yumi.

  First start. First thing to do is open Software Updater and run it.
  its starts but it fails saying "Package operation failed".
