Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The relevant dpkg terminal log says:

update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-5.4.0-37-generic
/usr/sbin/mkinitramfs: 88: .: Can't open /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/functions
update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-5.4.0-37-generic with 127.

Can you reproduce the failure by running "sudo update-initramfs -u"?
