  NIC sporadiclly drops connection, can't ping anything for a few
  moments

Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Randomly the NIC seems to drop it's connection, RDP to second desktop drops and usually reconnects after a few retry's. Packet loss to the local LAN does occur. 
  If the machine sleeps it has to be hard rebooted.
