Title:
Duplicate reboot prompt is displayed
Status in update-notifier package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
See bug 1998947.
Apparently this has already been reintroduced in Mantic. The scenario
is, on a default desktop installation:
1) The user starts an update through update-manager and then leaves it
running; a new kernel is picked up that requires a reboot. This
results in a prompt to reboot the system from update-manager but does
not get acknowledged by the user since they have stepped away.
2) Time passes.
3) update-notifier detects the reboot-required state and also prompts
itself.
4) The user then comes back. What do they see on the screen?
Expected behaviour: only one reboot prompt on the screen.
Actual behaviour: duplicate reboot prompts on the screen.
I think it's fine for the user to be periodically prompted, but having
duplicate prompts on the screen at once is a UX regression.
I have not reproduced this myself, but infer that it can happen
through the discussion in bug 1998947 so am leaving this bug open so
it does not get forgotten.
