OK. Repeated with the legacy iso I.e. ubiquity.

I saw the same message in the log. But ubiquity carried on regardless to
complete the install successfully.

So curtin should ignore the stderr?

  Not sure if this is a grub issue or a subiquity/curtin issue - but the
  last error in curtin is the stderr of the title.
