  do-release-upgrade fails because of broken/held ubuntu-desktop

Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  The log says that some dependency of ubuntu-desktop is broken but all
  my attempts from the command line with apt and dpkg didn't show any
  problems: All packages were the latest version and no problems were
  reported.

  The apt.log contains many entries with ubuntu-desktop:amd64, ubuntu-
  desktop-minimal:amd64, gdm3:amd64, gnome-shell:amd64,
  libmutter-12-0:amd64 and maybe others that I missed.

  The last entry is:
