I don't really know how or why, but a few days later the graphical
updater successfully updated and I am now running 22.10. So I guess this
can be closed. Thanks.

Bug description:
  When running do-release-upgrade, terminal says:

  Calculating the changes

  Calculating the changes

  Could not calculate the upgrade

  An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

  If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the 
  command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If 
  you want to investigate this yourself the log files in 
  '/var/log/dist-upgrade' will contain details about the upgrade. 
  Specifically, look at 'main.log' and 'apt.log'. 

  
  Restoring original system state

  I have noticed that usually, there is some error indicated between the
  "An unresolvable problem" and "If none of this applies" parts. As
  there is nothing that can be applied, I am reporting a bug as
  instructed.
