Just as an FYI,

    [Sites pastebin.com and some others] are inside an exclusive walled
garden that impose CAPTCHAs, discriminates against Tor users, disabled
people, and poor people who rely on CGNAT

and therefore recommends not fixing this protocol/API problem but
instead removing the support for pastebin.com and the other listed
allegedly ethically problematical sites.

Status in pastebinit package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  The pastebin.com fallback (in the event the distro can't be determined
  by `distro` module) does not function.  While this does not block any
  functionality for distro-specific pastebins such as paste.u.c or
  Debian's paste, it DOES break pastebin.com functionality, making
  pastebin.com as the fallback no longer feasible as long as every POST
  triggers an HTTP 405 error.

  (NOTE: Python version in this case is user-space Python 3.9.0 compiled myself using pyenv to handle multiple versions, however this is tested and confirmed on the system-shipped Python 3.8 series in Focal as well.)
