Public bug reported:
With the upcoming release of a debuginfod service for Ubuntu (see
https://blog.sergiodj.net/2022/08/14/debuginfod-is-coming-to-
ubuntu.html), we need to adjust our tooling to offer users the
possibility of using the service out-of-the-box, without too much
configuration.
I have recently uploaded elfutils to Debian unstable in order to improve
the way it handles the debuginfod shell profiles, and also to
preemptively implement support for Ubuntu's debuginfod server. Now, I
would like to request a feature freeze exception to bring these updates
to Ubuntu Kinetic.
The package builds fine on Debian
(https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=elfutils), and also on
Kinetic. elfutils doesn't have autopkgtests associated with it, but I
have tested installing/uninstalling/upgrading/purging the package inside
a container to make sure that these operations are still OK.
There is a new debconf question that will be introduced by this sync. I
marked it as high priority because I believe this is an important
feature and users will initially not be aware of it. We can consider
lowering the priority later.
elfutils generates many binary packages, and as such it has many reverse
dependencies. They should not be affected by this sync, though, because
all modifications were focused on debuginfod-related maintainer scripts
in the package.
** Affects: elfutils (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
