I reproduced an upgrade failure without trying too hard.
Output from Patrick:
Setting up grub-efi-amd64-signed (1.180+2.06-2ubuntu7) ...
Installing grub to /boot/efi.
Installing for x86_64-efi platform.
Installation finished. No error reported.
double free or corruption (out)
Aborted
My error was slightly different:
mount: /var/lib/grub/esp: special device /dev/vdb1 does not exist.
Factual, but why is it trying anything on vdb in the first place?
Steps to reproduce
* kvm install, single drive, using UEFI of 20.04.5 live-server
* do-release-upgrade
