Title:
  package usrmerge 25ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: installed
  usrmerge package post-installation script subprocess returned error
  exit status 255

Status in usrmerge package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Trying to upgrade from 20.04 to 22.04

  usrmerge doesn't have enough space in /usr and/or /var - the pre-
  upgrade checks should anticipate this.

  =====
  Could not install the upgrades

  The upgrade has aborted. Your system could be in an unusable state. A
  recovery will run now (dpkg --configure -a).

  Setting up usrmerge (25ubuntu2) ...
  Smartmatch is experimental at /usr/lib/usrmerge/convert-usrmerge line 172.
  1766740 KB in /usr but 2116336 KB are required!
  dpkg: error processing package usrmerge (--configure):
   installed usrmerge package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 255
  Errors were encountered while processing:
   usrmerge

  Upgrade complete

  The upgrade has completed but there were errors during the upgrade
  process.
  =====

  =====
  # dpkg --configure -a

  This requires non-trivial file system resizing that ordinary users
  won't be able to manage without help.

  This shouldn't happen.

  Fortunately, I have enough space in my LVM system. I can shrink /home
  to free up space for increasing the size of /usr - but other might not
  have that luxury:

  root at christina:~# df -h
