Title:
NewWorld-Boot Partition wrongly selected as root partition
  (Lubuntu/Ubuntu MATE 16.10)

Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
On PowerPC Apple machines with mac-partition layout a NewWorld-boot
partition is needed, formatted to HFS-filesystem.

Recent Ubiquity can no longer handle this. There is no option to
format a partition to HFS. Ubiquity can create a newworld-boot
partition (means the boot flag is set corretly), but this partition
has no filesystem and its mountpoint is also set to "/" which is
wrong. You get no appropriate error message and if continued the
  install simply stalls infinitely.

As a workaround you need to use gparted first to appropriately create
  this HFS-formatted newworld-partition.
