Title:
[21.10 FEAT] zdsfs: Transparent data set conversion (s390-tools)
Status in Ubuntu on IBM z Systems:
Fix Released
Status in s390-tools package in Ubuntu:
Fix Released
Bug description:
A Linux application can read and write EBCDIC-encoded data sets as ASCII.
A Linux application can read data sets in the same format as resulting from an FTP transfer from z/OS to Linux (including record translations)
Implementation:
- zdsfs transparently converts all data using a conversion table specified during mount
- Users must be able to specify applicable conversions on a per data set level (e.g. using configuration files specifying conversion steps per data set name)
- also perform record conversion (records to newline) => the result should look exactly like the result of an FTP (both binary and ascii), depending on per-data set configuration directive
