There is indeed no group scanner in /etc/group

What you expected to happen

I would expect the upgrader to propose a choice i.e. continue and ignore
sane-utils installation rather that just stopping the upgrade process.

****************
What happened instead

upgrader stopped and how to check installation status ? Should I restart
? unknown state.

I am not quite sure why sane-utils
