Title:
Ubuntu Impish Daily - dead screen before first boot message appears
  at 8 mins 5 sec

Status in casper package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Ubuntu impish daily written to thumb-drive using GNOME-DISKS (restore
  image)

  ** Comparison Boot

A QA-test was booted on (see http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/424/builds/230926/testcases/1303/results) for comparison
  - hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)

  stopwatch started at grub (Ubuntu)
plymouth visible at ~01 min 02 secs (ubuntu logo & swirly)
black screen and GUI/X mouse pointer @ 02 mins 21 secs (busy mouse pointer)
wallpaper appeared at 02: mins 37 secs (still busy mouse pointer)
try / install ubuntu questions appears at 3 mins 1 sec

@ ~3 mins 30 secs the system is fully operational.

(some times are accurate; some not, but all are pretty representative)

  ** Actual results this box

  Some QA-test (live) on
  -
  motion computing j3400 (c2d-u9400, 4gb, intel mobile 4 series)

takes 11 mins 17 secs to boot and become operational

  stop watch started at grub
screen cleared & black screen with cursor blinking top left
@ 8 mins 5 secs first [0.25999] x86 text (boot) message appeared on display
@ 8 mins 30 secs screen cleared & plymouth appeared (swirly started a sec or two later)
@ 9 mins 57 secs wallpaper appeared and pretty soon after that the try ubuntu/install ubuntu question
@ 10 mins 22 secs the actual gui appeared but with busy mouse pointer
  @ 11 mins 17 secs system is up & usable & stable

  ** Summary

That's almost 8 minutes longer, with nothing but a cursor blinking top
left of the screen without any input.

In prior releases (excluding hirsute; see comparison with lubuntu
focal), you at least get to see the media validation during part of
the time, so at least you have some assurance the system is actually
  working.

Some sort of output needs to be provided during the 8 minutes of
nothing (or 8 mins 5 secs of doing nothing greatly reduced)

This was done in exploration of http://launchpad.net/bugs/1928939 and
will be marked duplicate of such
