Title:
grub-installer (invoqued by ubiquity) fails to install grub on
  /dev/sda

Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
My laptop has 1 rotating disk and 1 SSD.
On this laptop, using Ubuntu Live from a large USB stick, I would like to install Ubuntu 14.10 with a customized partitionning scheme.

I know that the BIOS is able to boot from a DVD and from a USB stick.
But for boot using the internal rotating disk '/dev/sda', I do NOT know if the BIOS is able to use GRUB inside MBR, use GRUB in EFI partition, use only the original W**** OS (whose partition does NOT exist anymore), or is broken.

So, I am trying various configuration sets using following parameters :
  - For the partition table of the internal rotating disk, format it as MBR or GPT.
  - For the device on which to install GRUB, tell ubiquity to use the internal rotating disk, or to use a small USB stick.
  - For the EFI partition, tell ubiquity to use it, or NOT to use it.

With most of the configuration sets, the installation apparently
succeeds, but on reboot, the BIOS does NOT find GRUB.

The current bug occured with following configuration parameters :
  - For the partition table of the internal rotating disk, format it as MBR.
  - For the device on which to install GRUB, tell ubiquity to use the internal rotating disk.
  - For the EFI partition, tell ubiquity NOT to use it.

  I have several questions :
  - Can grub-install display precisely what it does ?
  - Could ubiquity, at the end of the disk customization page, display what grub-install will try to do ?
  - By the way, is there any utility able to show what my laptop BIOS requires for boot using the internal rotating disk ?

Thank you in davance for your answers.
