[Bug 1911897] Re: bcmwl-kernel-source fails to build due to the dependency issue of linux-libc-dev_5.4.0-62.70 vs linux-libc-dev_5.4.0-61.69_amd64.deb

Dear Steve,

You are completely right with the dependency argument :-)

However the issue still persists in 20210118
It is NOT possible to "load additional drivers" on a MacBook/iMac WITHOUT internet access in the live session (for a novice user)

But it is possible to force it to compile (root terminal):
dpkg -i /cdrom/pool/main/l/linux/linux-libc-dev_*_amd64.deb
apt install bcmwl-kernel-source

will successfully compile the driver and wifi starts working.

The issue might be with:
/rofs/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_focal-proposed_main_binary-amd64_Packages
which references an other version than the one present on /cdrom

kind regards

Title:
bcmwl-kernel-source fails to build due to the dependency issue of
  linux-libc-dev_5.4.0-62.70 vs linux-libc-dev_5.4.0-61.69_amd64.deb

Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Hi :-)

I just tested the latest daily build of
  1) ubuntu focal (/cdrom/.disk/info Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20210115))
  2) xubuntu focal (/cdrom/.disk/info Xubuntu 20.04.1 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20210114))

The bcmwl-kernel-source fails to build due to the dependency issue of:
  linux-libc-dev_5.4.0-62.70_amd64.deb (required)
  linux-libc-dev_5.4.0-61.69_amd64.deb (version on /cdrom/pool/main/l/linux)

  manually installing (previously downloaded) linux-libc-dev_5.4.0-62.70_amd64.deb
and then running apt install bcmwl-kernel-source successfully builds the wl.

The pool on the cdrom contains an outdated version of linux-libc-dev,
  apt-ftparchive issue?

thank you very much for addressing this issue,
  kind regards
  Otto

  Question:
PS: I am working on a enhanced version of Xubuntu focal (daily images) and sometimes the daily images are missing for few days,... is there a way to ensure their presence? please :-)
  thx
