Thanks for your report.

Current implementation validates the username with the same function
than linux one and must be changed to follow the restrictions on MS
Windows / AD.

Bug description:
  So I just tried to install ubuntu 21.04 and checkout how new Active Directory integration works.
  During installation I checked options to use Active Directory features and on next screen I has ben asked to enter AD domain name and AD administrator credentials.

  In my users in ad always have dot symbol in their logins e.g. j.doe,
  administrators also, but installer displays error message and not
  allowing enter my administrator user credentials.

  I think is a bug cause Active Directory has no restrictions for dots
  in usernames.
