While Lucid/10.04 did not receive extended support, Ubuntu has increased their standard support life of LTS releases to 5 years, and also offers extended security support: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases
I consider that satisfactory to close this bug report as Fixed. If there are further questions about support life, please open a new question/bug.

Title:
Consider extending support for Lucid 10.04.4 LTS

Status in update-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Now that Ubuntu Lucid 10.0.4 has almost reached the end of its life-
cycle, considering how much of a dramatic change would be the upgrade
to the current 12.04 LTS release, would it be possible to consider an
extension of its support, although strictly limited to security
  updates?

People who still use Lucid do this for a reason, they have in all
likeliness tried the newer Ubuntu releases and drawn the conclusion
that they are far too distant from Lucid to be considered an
update, they actually are a different OS altogether.

Lucid has indeed been working flawlessly (at least,as far as a
software can be flawless) so far and actually still does,so giving up
on this release for something else that is not nearly as easy and
comfortable to use for them may not be an option.

Considering that this kind of users is certainly not interested in
using the latest and greatest software (or else they would have made
the move to the current 12.x releases by now),why not consider a
limited form of support for keeping this traditional yet still very
functional and widely appreciated Ubuntu release still alive?
