Title:
:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be
caused by held packages.
Status in update-manager package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
This started after I tried to select a different nvidia driver. I am unable to go back to my original selection and the error persists whenever I run the update-manager. I am running
Mate
Description: Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
Release: 18.04
I don't know the name of the package that is causing the problem
I was expecting to update my nvidia driver and get my external monitor working, or when it didn't update for things to go back to normal. (Nothing but good things)
The update manager shows that I have gone back to the default nvidia driver, and produces the ":Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages." message when I run the update manager.
I have included a screen shot of the drivers I was selecting from. I started on the first driver NVIDIA driver metapackage. I tried to switch to the third driver NVIDIA binary driver version 340.108. This appeared to fail and is when the message that is the subject of this report started, the selection also went to what it is now X.Org X.Server. After that I the second entry the legacy driver, and returning to the NVIDIA driver metapackage. None of these subsequent attempts changed anything that I could see.
