Title:
on install- no indicator of progress for restoring packages
Status in One Hundred Papercuts:
Confirmed
Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
So when I upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10, it gave me the option to update all existing software, which I checked.
I then sat back and watched as ubuntu installed. I was given great feedback on what was going on, (under the progress bar) until I got to the message "Restoring Previously installed packages."
(I guess that this is when it downloads restricted extras and the
latest versions of all the software that's already on my computer, and
probably will take a long time but I didn't realise that at the time.
)
this process took 2 hours and during that time, the installer stopped
giving feedback. it just sat on the same message for the entire 2
hours. I thought the pc had frozen and almost reset half a dozen
times.
I'm marking this as a bug because the progress indicator stopped
giving feedback, but I realise that it may have been designed like
that. Either way it can make the experience confusing especially for
new-comers.
