I’m really sorry this bug was left unanswered for so long! I’m hoping to
improve the situation with the apport project. Unfortunately when you're
sitting on nearly 1300 open bugs, manually looking into each one becomes
almost impossible.

I take it this has not been an issue for a long time then. Closing.

Bug description:
  This happens randomly and unexpectedly. The mouse stops moving, the
  TTY cannot be accessed, and all I can do to stop it is REISUB. When
  the freeze occurred just now, all I was doing was opening the menu and
  clicked on "preferences".
